The reinforcing cavalry units primarily consisted of three riders per unit, each with a sufficient number of horses. Previously, someone had suggested to the cavalry commander that they use the horses to clear any landmines.
However, the extra horses were intended to help transport supplies after reaching the supply convoy, so the commander rejected the suggestion. Now, with raging fires burning to the north, the commander was truly anxious.
If something went wrong with the supply convoy, what would they be doing there? At the commander's command, the cavalrymen led their horses back several dozen meters, then frantically whipped them, urging them to gallop forward.
