A table stood in the open space in front of the ship, upon which rested a large fish over a meter long, draped in red cloth. In front of the fish was an incense burner with three sticks of incense burning.
This was a ceremony before the ship's launch, a prayer for the Dragon King to bless the new vessel with a smooth and successful voyage. The cheers earlier were likely the boatmen's applause during the ceremony, similar in meaning to the chants during lion dances in the Central Plains.
Jin Feng now traveled with bodyguards, and the large number of people entering the shipyard attracted the attention of many boatmen, who turned to look. Man Cang and Hong Taoping, standing side-by-side in front of the table, also turned.
