Twenty miles west of the capital city, an elderly woman ran a small tea stall with her daughter-in-law and granddaughter. Guards and travelers often stopped here for a refreshing cup of iced tea.
Children from poor families often had to take on responsibilities early. Although only six years old, the little girl, Ah Chun, was very diligent, either helping her mother prepare the tea or serving customers for her grandmother.
Passing guards would always praise her for being so well-behaved. However, since returning after being forced to flee the city, the young girl seemed to have changed.
