As the fleet of ships approached from across the river, Jin Feng's expression grew increasingly grim. The enemy's fleet consisted almost entirely of small boats, only a few zhang (a traditional Chinese unit of measurement) in length.
Jin Feng had prepared specialized heavy crossbow bolts for naval combat. These bolts were filled with explosives and designed to pierce armor, detonating upon impact against the hull of an enemy ship, causing it to sink.
Whether large or small, one bolt was enough to disable a ship. The enemy clearly understood this, which is why they stopped sending larger ships and instead deployed a vast number of smaller vessels.
