Charlotte and Thesaya's eyes widened simultaneously. Mev and Philip also stopped what they were doing and looked at Ian.
"Leave? What do you mean, Ian?" Thesaya asked next.
Ian answered calmly, "I mean exactly that. Once we enter the Empire, you two should leave."

This premise is gold! Waking up as your least favorite video game or book character you legitimately don't want to be has got to be one of the most unique and intriguing starting points I've seen. How Ian deals with being a 'hopeless' character in such a dire setting will certainly keep me hooked!
Ok but the side characters carry this arc.
