A large wagon, laden with goods, was pulled by an old horse that struggled to move its hooves. It plodded forward, keeping pace with the other wagons in the caravan, heading towards the distant east.
This was a convoy of about fifteen wagons, accompanied by migrating civilians and hired mercenaries for protection.
The servants walked along the road, their expressions somewhat blank, while on either side stretched vast fields and scattered houses.
