"Dead?"
The company commander, standing in the open space at the entrance of the village, frowned and asked the platoon leader who had just approached. He watched as his soldiers carried the bodies of the women – some already stiffening – to a secluded area for burial.
The platoon leader nodded and offered the company commander a cigarette, which he lit himself before offering one back. He exhaled a plume of smoke: "They were killed by a woman who hit them with rocks. They're… quite mangled. It's a bit sickening to look at."
