Becky, clutching a pistol, trudged along the uneven roadbed, taking one step at a time. He was cursing Pryce, and cursing everything that had happened to him that day.
The rough terrain made it impossible to ride a horse, which greatly frustrated Becky. He was accustomed to luxury and comfort, so he certainly didn't want to undertake such a long trek on foot.
That's why he hated Pryce and the patrol officers who had discovered his horses.
