The war collapsed faster than anyone had anticipated.

After the rapid loss of front-line positions and the defeat of the two major northern cities of Beijing and Tianjin, the main force of the Japanese continued to advance into the Yan-Zhao-Qi-Lu region.

The intention was to eliminate the main force of the Nationalist army in this area to prevent future troubles.
